OUR HISTORY

Otter Creek is the dream achieved and vision of native Alabamians, Frank and Jane Brown. What started out as a family farm, turned into a small quail hunting farm, which turned into what is now, the luxury wingshooting lodge. The farm started out as 80 acres and is now over 1,000 acres with leased property of another 6,000 acres. Frank fell in love with an English Cocker named Merlin, who he purchased from Dan Murray in North Dakota. In April of 2011, a tornado came through and destroyed 2,200 hardwoods, creating a flat, clearcut woodland perfect for quail hunting. After an adventure in the field with Merlin, Frank had the vision of a luxury wingshooting lodge. They started to rebuild in 2013 and by 2016 they had their first quail hunt.

Their original house, is now the game room and they built their main house adjacent to the game room, which is now the Otter Creek Lodge. The stables which is an original part of the property is now our most spacious housing accommodation. As the business kept growing so did the property. The Grand Room was built as a central location for food, fellowship, and some fine wine. Frank is a visionary for what Otter Creek can offer and is always upgrading or adding new structures to further our client’s Otter Creek experience. In 2017, Frank began a kennel of field bred English cocker spaniels imported from the UK, breeding those bloodlines to proven hunting dogs bloodlines and is now one of the top English Cocker breeding kennels around. The elegant dog work is often the highlight of the day for our guests.

Living up to our feature in Garden & Gun Magazine’s 2016 Best of the Sporting South, 25 Trips of a Lifetime for the Traveling Sportsman, we host upland hunters from all over the United States and several foreign countries now.
